New Year's Conundrum

Christmas has been survived and I got 67 Hulk comics (66 from my love), including a record/comic set from 1974 and a Hulk 180 (the first actual appearance of Wolverine, thank you very much) - SAAA-WEEEET!

Incidentally, you should really read the awesome rant provided by the link to info on Hulk 180. That guy is great!

I also got a fancy Boba Fett figurine from Aurora that is going on my monitor at work, an MP3 player from Dom, a calendar with shots from the Hubble Telescope (man, I still really love the Hubble) and Eric got me bling this year too. I've developed extremely sensitive skin over the last few years and now I can't even wear sterling silver chains on my neck. Eric got me a white gold necklace so I can again wear the Thor's Hammer (or Mjöllnir) pendant I got when we were in Denmark!

Mmmmm.... tasty pagan goodness.....

So, my Dad's taking Aurora and Dom's got her own plans on New Year's Eve. Now what do Eric and I do?
1. Watch Godzilla movies in our jammies
2. Go see The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
3. Get gussied up and spend the tattered remains of my post-Xmas bank account balance at the bar surrounded by douche bags listening to douchey music
Okay, option 3 seems rather wretched to me.
1 & 2 could be done in the same night - catch an early flick and go home to an orgy of Kaiju flicks.
WOOT!

For prof_werewolf : I gotta say, I'm not hating ChristMess too much right now. There's still a small number of bucks in my account and I'm totally done with the shopping. I'm pretty stoked about the prezzies I got for Eric and the girls. It should be a good time. And as vulgar as I find the lack of separation of church and state during this time of year, I'm still going to enjoy the week off I get between Christmas and New Year's day. Hope everyone is well!

So this is what it looks like in my town right now

It has been snowing since I got to work and I wasn't relishing brushing off my car at the end what has been a crazy busy day. I trudged to the lot where I parked and my flivver had been completely brushed off!!
YAY, humans!! Sometimes they can surprise you.
And some birthday stuff:
I got the Incredible Hulk Omnibus #1!!

Dude. Just looking at the cover makes me happy.
And I got this crazy mobile Hulk that twists and turns and crashes into things from Eric too.
Plus, the boys said that we could have an extra night of D&D for my B-Day so I got to play TWICE IN ONE WEEK!! Thanks guys! One thousand experience points closer to 10th level....

Aurora won a hundred bucks for her Asterix costume!!! WOOT! First place!!!

This happened a million years ago (last month) but I so rarely post nowadays. She was super thrilled and I was really happy for her!

Some words that sound scientific, but came from SciFi literature.

Creepy science experiments that might have been better off staying in the realm of fantasy.

Sdtoopid Christmas is coming up so damn fast and I have no idea what to get the kidlets and even if I did, I can't afford anything. Other than the spectre of Xmassacre looming over my head (and my impending 37th birthday), things are going okay. Work is busy, my job is as secure as one can hope considering the widespread budget cuts and layoffs going on at the University and the kids are happy and healthy.
No Swine Flu on us!
And happy news: the assfaces that live next door are moving out at the end of the month!!! I didn't even have to resort to illegal methods of running them out. They finally got sick and tired of me calling the cops on them all the time. I'm not a huge fan of "the man", but dude. If you wanna be a rock star and host drum circles at 2:00am, you really shouldn't share walls.
Anyway, I hope that the landlord will be a little choosier about who he rents the unit to. Friends, please think nice, quiet, live-and-let-live type neighbours for me, okay???

Jerk Neighbours

For the past 8 weekends (and several weeknights), Aurora has had to sleep in my bed because the shit head neighbours think that having drum circles and playing electric guitar until 3:00am is a fine idea when you share walls. Her room is directly above their living room and they're so loud that she can hear every single word they say. Their landlord doesn't give a damn and going through proper legal channels has been a long arduous process. I'm still trying to deal with it legally, but I'm at my wit's end.
I've looked online and found "The Mosquito Sound" online but I don't think it works very well on twenty-somethings, especially through walls. Funnily enough, as soon as I started playing it, Aurora started going snakey...
Does anyone have knowledge of a subsonic noise that I can blast through my walls to drive these douchebags as crazy as they've driven my family?
Please help!! Sometimes they're so loud that I can hear it in my room - and my double closet and their bathroom are between us! I'm so tired that I'm near tears.

Woke up today with no voice. First day of classes at the university and I have no voice.
It's funny - if you whisper, everyone talking to you will whisper too.
Mute power, it seems like that ought to be some kind of oxymoron but it isn't.

Thanks so much for the shaved noggin compliments, friends!
I'm enjoying the baldness, though every once in a while I miss having locks to style. It's growing quickly, though. I think that by next month, I'll be using a comb!
My back is in spasm and I'm in enough pain that I had to cancel the weekly Dungeons and Dragons playtime.
If I put my head down I feel pain all the way down to my butt.

It's been forever since I've posted and I only have a couple of minutes before my lunch break so I'll get on with my news.
I shaved my head for cancer!! I managed to raise almost $1800.00

Time Flies When You're Having ummmm...Fun?

Wow. 3 weeks since I posted last, 2 weeks and 4 murders in my city since New Year's Day.
Xmas was fun, we had our dear friend Donald (brilliant artist from New York) and Rusty (my fair priced comics dealer) over for dinner and had a nice relaxing time.
It was especially nice 'cause this was the first Christmassacre that I got to have my girls with me all day. The ex-husband always had them in the afternoons and when he took off for parts unknown, the evil ex-inlaws took me to court so the kidlets were forced to spend the night with them.
I got a glow in the dark Hulk shirt, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, and tickets to see David Byrne when he comes to town next month!

Work is crazy evil right now. I've been told January is the worst time of year at the University but Oh My Dawg it sucks. I'd rather face Dr. Doom and the Wendigo sans Hulk than go back to the office tomorrow. Oh well. Rent to pay....

So I turned ...ugh.....36 on Thursday.
If I round up, I'm 40.
It wasn't all depressing, though.
When I got to work, there was a huge banner wishing me Happy Birthday, my keyboard was gift wrapped and my supervisor made me a black forest cake!
When I got home, the girls had prezzies for me - Aurora made me a heating bag and Dom gave me the new Salman Rushdie book.
Eric had already given me a new bed, but he spoiled me with the 3 disc Hulk set (we spent all night watching the extras!!WHEEE!) and a Thrashin' Lassies shirt I can wear to cheer mamasita_muerte on during the next Derby match. And he paid for me to get my hair done, I'm a brunette now.
It was a lovely birthday and I guess I can't complain about the age too much. I'm pretty happy with where I am in this world.

The job is going well. It's really intense and crazy busy but I'm enjoying it. There's a weird, almost Socialist vibe that makes me feel that even if I don't get everything done that I was s'posed to do, as long as I work hard and do what I can, it's all good. I guess that's what comes from being a full time employee of a union job in a university...
Am I silly for feeling like even though I'm still pushing paper to pay the rent, this job is a little more noble than my last?
Eric bought me the new Hulk on dvd - the commentary with Louis Leterrier and Tim Roth is awesome!!
Now I can watch all the battle scenes in slow motion - WOOT!
